BIO

Along Italy’s Adriatic coast in the sleepy little town of Pesaro saw an upspring of underground audio arts within the past decade. Enter the ethereal shoegaze artisans Be Forest, comprised of Costanza Delle Rose, Erica Terenzi and Nicola Lampredi, who have garnered international acclaim by working with a creative aesthetic that mixed the maudlin with an earthy tenebrous timbre that alluded to unknown worlds of mystery and wonder. Fostering a local scene of contemporaries from Brothers in Law, Altro, Soviet Soviet and more, Be Forest established an influential and organic form of artistry that sought to transcend existing genre trends to create an aesthetic all their own.

Joining forces with the prestigious Italian American imprint We Were Never Being Boring (aka WWNBB Collective), Be Forest would release their debut album offering Cold in 2011, that introduced the world to the group’s mystical mode of musical bewilderment. Like a walk through a misty wooded European passageway, Be Forest illuminated their listener’s senses in ways that their goth and post-punk predecessors could never achieve. The band expounded upon their brand of melancholia with the 2012 single “Hanged Man” b/w “I.O.,” which carried their listeners to clandestine thickets, beyond the briar and brush of haunted groves.

A few years later, Be Forest created their most transcendental record to date, with the ambitious pagan ritual styles of Earthbeat. From singles like the woodwind sporting spirited dance motions of “Captured Heart” to the sky-sailing mesmerization of “Colours,” Earthbeat exemplified the eclectic and expansive nature of a group that worked with arts that oscillate between the material realm and the pull towards the unknown. 2016 brought the single “Glow,” where the group would engineer aspects and notions of auras into bonafide pop ore.

All of which brings us to Knocturne, a tour de force that dives deep into the elusive trenches and dimensions of limitless night. Be Forest responds to the sentiments of today’s times of tyranny, sadness and confusion with an evocative album that retreats toward imaginative universes of infinite midnight feels. From the grand curtain rising of “Atto I” to the fantasia free-fall finale of “You, Nothing,” the trio takes the listener upward to solemn, celestial places of endless sky as well as plunging them into the abyss depths of infinitude that defy conventional adjectives and descriptions.

“Be Forest’s […] take on pop-rock is as atmospheric as it is aerobic — sturdy backbeats laden with plentiful reverb, many layers of guitar tremolo, and ethereal coos.” – Stereogum

“One of the most outstanding shoegaze / darkgaze / post-punk bands of the past decade is Be Forest.” – The Revue

“The dreamlike production shines through on “Bengala”, a dream-pop tour to force that sonically sounds like a cool breath of air filling the lungs while sinking into a shimmering chasm of water and light.” – post-punk zine

“…a powerful mixture of hazy dreampop and dark post punk, whose imposing production carries the unquestionable technical abilities of co-producer, Steve Scanu and mastering by Josh Bonati (Mac DeMarco, Zola Jesus, David Lynch).” – Destroy // Exist
